ON Thursday 21 July 2016, the Directors of the Geotech Group of companies launched their Safety Charter, demonstrating their collective commitment to sending every worker home safely to their families.
The ceremony was attended by over 200 employees from the Melbourne Metro area, with the charter soon to be delivered to our projects in country Victoria and interstate.
Company founder Gerry Noonan was guest of honour at the ceremony, where his alter ego "Safety Gerry" was revealed. Gerry waxed lyrical about just how far industry safety standards had come since Geotech was founded back in 1972. From his stories it’s fair to say a long way!
The charter is a great example of the Directors and employees working together, as it was derived in response to suggestions from our internal Safety Leadership programs.
The charter involves seven actions about health and safety, which each signatory must commit to. The actions are succinct and common sense, in recognition of the need for immediate understanding and ease of compliance onsite.
The ceremony included the announcement of the winner of the inaugural Safety Gerry Award, taken out by Craig Addicoat (Supervisor, John Beever Australia) for his efforts in managing 70,000+ man hours without a reportable injury at our Origin Gas Plant project in Port Campbell, Victoria, demonstrating an exceptional approach to safety and commitment to the Group’s safety objectives. His reward was a $5,000 travel voucher, which you’d imagine will be spent going somewhere other than Port Campbell! Other nominees were awarded Bunnings vouchers.
At the completion of the ceremony, all employees were invited to sign the charter, whereby they committed to look after themselves and their work mates.
