Congratulations to Geotech’s Ian Burns, who yesterday was announced as the winner of the annual “Safety Gerry” Award for FY17.
Ian won for his commitment as a safety leader in his recently appointed role as Supervisor, and for embracing safety measures to support his crew.
His is a good story too, having joined us some 10 years ago as a Trainee and, in a something good from something bad story, having suffered a workplace injury a while back after falling off a scaffold.
As the winner, Ian was handed a $5,000 travel voucher by Safety Gerry Noonan himself.
The two runners up in Charles Cachia (JBA) and Ian Hardy (Coleman Rail) received a $500 travel voucher from Directors Andre Noonan and Darren Loidl respectively.
“Chucky” was in consideration for his efforts and commitment required to ensure Dulux's site safety systems are exceptional, and for showing a high level of safety knowledge when developing SWMS.
Ian (Hardy) was nominated for his clear and concise safety deliverable comments associated with the Pre-Work Brief, his safety empowerment and engagement from the work groups at Southland Station, and his general worksite safety oversight. Ian was quick to point out that the award was for all of the workers at Southland.
The Safety Gerry Award is an integral part of our rewards and recognition program, rolled out as part of the Directors’ Safety Charter.
The Program recognises that our workforce is our most important asset, and aims to recognise employees that are not only contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of ACCIONA Geotech, but doing so in a way that ensures that this is always done safely.
