On Friday night at the Master Builders Awards Gala Dinner held at Crown Palladium, Geotech took out the Excellence in Civil Construction category for their Candowie Reservoir Upgrade Project (D&C) in Almurta, VIC.
The Excellence in Construction Awards showcase the best that the Victorian construction industry has to offer: the best in design and planning, construction, project management, mechanical services and building materials.
Said Director Darren Loidl: “On Friday night it was my great pleasure to accept the 2015 Excellence in Civil Construction award from the Master Builders Association for our upgrade of Candowie Reservoir. The award recognises the dedication of our skilled personnel and staff who delivered this challenging and unusual project.”
“The award is also evidence of the excellent collaboration between the Geotech Group, our client Westernport Water and their designers Entura, as the project was delivered efficiently where it now doubles the previous water storage capacity for the Phillip Island community.”
The Candowie Reservoir Upgrade project involved nearly doubling the dam’s storage capacity by raising the dam wall and spillway by 3m in order to secure a reliable and affordable water supply for future generations in the Bass area. The embankment upgrade raises the existing crest wall using a combination of pre-cast panels and cast in-situ works in order to construct the new embankment fill behind the new wall. New permanent anchors were also installed to meet required seismic loads on the increased height of the outlet tower. The spillway and its training walls also required attention. Water levels had to remain high and works were to be undertaken in a live operational environment.
